PERI was founded in January 1969. At first, there was only one engineer‘s office but, in April 1969, work had already begun on the building of a small production hall on a plot of land on the outskirts of Weissenhorn. Since then the PERI areal has been continuously expanded and extended.

In addition to the parent plant and headquarters in Weissenhorn near Ulm, Germany, more than 64 subsidiaries and over 120 logistics centers are operated worldwide. The company employs over 7,700 employees and generated revenue of € 1.3 bn in 2015. The company name is taken from the Greek preposition "peri" (English: around).
